Today I was writing a class to deal with creating and modifying Virtual Hosts. During this process, I wanted to see if WebSphere Admin.Task command’s existed. You see there are two ways to modify Websphere configuration. !. Is to use what I call MBean generics ie AdminConfig.getid(), Adminconfig.create(), AdminConfig.modify(). However the generics assume you understand the underlying XML. What IBM has been doing since 7 is adding many new Admin.Task options and below is a little script that I used to print out all the Admin.Task commands available in WAS 7. Well as you can see there is o AdminTask in WAS 7, but there could be WAS 8. Soon I am adding some article on how to use AdminTask as compared to MBean Generics.

Script:

set WAS_HOME=C:/Program Files/IBM/WebSphere7/AppServer1/profiles/Dmgr01
set SCRIPT_HOME=C:/scripts/vhostManager
"%WAS_HOME%/bin/wsadmin.bat" -lang jython -username wasadmin -password wasadmin -c "print AdminTask.help('-commands');"

Result:

C:\scripts\vhostManager>set WAS_HOME=C:/Program Files/IBM/WebSphere7/AppServer1/profiles/Dmgr01
C:\scripts\vhostManager>set SCRIPT_HOME=C:/scripts/vhostManager

C:\scripts\vhostManager>"C:/Program Files/IBM/WebSphere7/AppServer1/profiles/Dmgr01/bin/wsadmin.bat" -lang jython -username wasadmin -password wasadmin -c "print AdminTask.help('-commands');"
