MQ Explorer Install

February 5, 2013 Blog, WebSphere MQ 0 Comment

MQ Explorer is included with an MQ server installation and is also available for download as SupportPac MS0T. At the time of writing the latest Windows install is called ms0t_mqexplorer_75_windows.zip  (200 MB)

You can install this on a number of platforms. Install MQExplorer both on the server (Linux for example) and a client windows machine (Your desktop for example).

You need a JRE for MQExplorer, so install MQSeriesJRE for Linux before you proceed, or an appropriate Windows JRE. Most day you will have a JR already installed.

In windows

  • Download, unzip and install using the wizard which is self-explanatory

A new option will be available somewhere in your start menu

Starting MQ Explorer

  • Connect to the queue managers you have created as part of the server to server verification by launching the MQ Explorer and right clicking Queue Manager.

Below is an example of connecting to the TEST1 queue manager which is created in module 1 of the WebSphere MQ 7.5 course.

However you will not be able to connect to the remote queue manager until you open up the security for remote administration. We cover this as part of topics on Security in my WMQ 7.5 course which can be purchased at http://www.themiddlewareshop.com/products.

  • Click Next
  • Type in the appropriate hostname and port for the QM

If you get the following error when connecting, then you need to do a few things as mentioned above.

If you are not interested in purchasing my courses, then do a search on http://bog.webspheretools.com I often have answers there. Also my older knowledge base found at http://www/webspheretools.com also contain WMQ tips and tricks.
