Summary

In this guide, we have learned about Global Security, and how to setup LDAP for our application user and administrative user requirements. We looked at how to create federated repositories defined as realms which contain more than one user registry of different types, yet presented as one virtual realm. Federated repositories are the way forward.

We also covered using a Standalone LDAP repository and found that this can be limited, i.e. when LDAP is down, we lose the ability to manage users and groups and we cannot even log into the WAS Amin Console.

Also as part of this document we learned how to set up ApacheDS to act as our LDAP directory, and we covered several key concept pertaining to User and Group Role management.

I hope this guide answers many of the questions about LDAP configuration for WAS 8.5.5.x
